Nearly four in ten (37%) over 50s plan to use their spare time improving their fitness over the next few years, and one third (31%) intend to change to a healthier lifestyle and improve their diet, weight and general wellbeing, research for Alliance & Leicester's new Premier 50 current account has found.

This bespoke current account, specifically tailored for the over 50s age group, provides an exclusive range of benefits for customers up to the age of 79, including access to up to two out-patient specialist consultations, up to £750 worth of out-patient diagnostic testing, and a 'Health at Hand' helpline providing access to a team of qualified healthcare professionals, which is available all day every day.

Such benefits are in demand as the research shows that 11 million people in the UK aged 50 and above list health issues as one of their main worries. In fact, 58% say they are worried about their health compared to only 34% who worry about money, family (49%), career (4%) and image (5%).

Seeking medical advice, access to doctor appointments and peace of mind are essential to the over 50s:
• Three quarters (78%) say getting correct medical advice is “extremely important” to them
• Two thirds (65%) say getting seen quickly by a doctor/nurse is utmost on their minds and 40% say convenience of appointments is essential
• 76% also say having confidence and peace of mind following any medical assessment is very important
