The Pax World Fund
In 1967, Luther Tyson and Jack Corbett were in Washington, D.C., working on peace, housing, and employment issues for the Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church, when Tyson received a letter from a woman in Ohio. She asked a simple question: "Is there a mutual fund which will manage my pension money without investing in war-related industries?" Somewhat to his surprise, Tyson discovered that the answer was "no." He wrote back, told her the disappointing news, and resumed his work, but the idea for such a fund stayed with him.
